Okay, so the government has given money to banks to loosen lending and at the same time told them to watch their money and assure they have sufficient capital. No mixed messages there. And, so far, no accountability for where the money has gone.
AIG is another story. Billions in bail out funds, and off they go on management meetings at resorts with it. If they hadn't been so blatant, we'd probably never have known and Treasury likely would have never found out.
Then, they've given the auto makers $35Billion for a bailout - yeah, that's going to redefine a failing industry. And they've put additional CAFE requirements on new cars on top of giving them money. What one hand giveth, the other....Oh well, at least change is coming to Washington.
Now cities around the country have decided to jump on Uncle Sam's bandwagon and have submitted their bailout requests for "urgently" needed projects they want us to pay for. In about 800 pages and a $73Billion request package, they've asked for a variety of things they don't apparently really want to pay for; they want us to. Things like $80,000 for a tennis facility in Santa Barbara, California. Or $3.1Million for a swimming pool for Tulsa, Oklahoma. Or a $5.7Million for a cruise ship terminal in Puerto Rico. Oh, how about the minor league baseball hall of fame for Durham, North Carolina. Or how about $94Million for a parking garage at the Orange Bowl?
These fine public servant mayors around the country must figure, '...it's not worth our money to do this, but Americans in general MUST want us to have these things and therefore they should pay for them!' What a bunch of weasels.
The United States doesn't have enough economic ills, let's pile it on by increasing pork barrel spending to an unprecedented degree. The people of these fine cities should hold these morons accountable, make them prove their fiscal responsibility in their next election; or even now, between elections.
I know. I'll apply for some TARP funds of my own. About $1,500 should cover it; all I need to do is buy enough broom handles to put up the rear ends of all these fine political talents.
I won't even make them bend over for it.

Barney Frank Rides Again!
Okay, this is scary, especially if he's considered the smartest man on capitol hill.
In the December 13th CBS 60 minutes, Barney gave an interview to Leslie Stahl. In this interview, he was equating the governments helping someone who had worked 20 years and was having trouble making his mortgage payments to someone who had been laid off and was on unemployment, getting free money!
Free money! Since when? What were all those payroll taxes into unemployment insurance for? Using Barney's logic then, those who are receiving social security payments must be deadbeats also.
